Leeward with Waianae

Leeward means the side
of the island that is facing away from the prevailing trade winds. Pearl Harbor's
three "lochs" or bays form a cloverleaf pattern in the coastline between
Honolulu and Barbers Points.
West of Pearl Harbor dense sugarcane boarders the highway for about 9 miles
between Waipahu and Kahe Point.
Gleaming beaches skirt Hawaiian homestead land between Kahe Point and the
surfing beach at Makaha. This is the leeward Oahu, sheltered from the trade
winds by the Wainae Mountains
