|
| (Kuliouou means this in Hawaiian). This is one of the most popular
of East Honolulu state trails for exercise and scenery enthusiasts alike.
This intermediate trail starts at the north end of the Kuliouou subdivision.
From Kalanianole Hwy. turn onto Kuliouou Road and head into the valley. |
||
| Go around a park and just before the road ends take a right onto Kalaau Road. The trail gradually works up to a ridge. The trail then follows the ridge to the top of the Koolau summit where you can get some excellent views. | ||
| The 1,700-foot-climb and 3.4 round-trip distance makes it challenging enough for most hikers to work up a sweat. However, the windswept summit with coastal views of white-sand Waimanalo and Lanikai Beaches, deep green windward forests, and the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean makes the effort entirely worthwhile. | ||
