One of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea’s current eruption has been entertaining tourists and for those living within its reach total concern on a continual basis for the past 25 years. After Kalapana was hit and destruction took out one of the last remaining traditional Hawai’ian communities, fishing villages and preeminent surf spots, Kalapana and Kaimu Bay, for the most part the lava flows have maintained a safe route from the Pu’u ‘O’o vent to the ocean. It had stayed that way for so long.

	The Puna area is located on the eastern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. The area is covered with old lava flows and tropical forests. Along the coast, you can visit a beautiful Kaimu Black Sand Beach.		Lat/Long (19.34305, -154.999023)
	At the end of Hwy 137 to Kaimu Chain of Crater Rd you can reach the lava fields from the most current Kilauea eruption. The hike from the east side (Pahoa side) is similar in nature to the hike from the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.		Lat/Long (19.338235, -154.997067)
	The walk out was not challenging, there is marked trail on very bumpy, crumbly old lava and there is no direct access to lava flow right now,		Lat/Long (19.33815, -154.997013)
	beacuseo of the fumes or ... because A man was recently rescued after being lost on the lava for two days after hiking in from the east side - this is not a risk-free or recommended adventure.		Lat/Long (19.34198, -154.99758)
